Hootin' Holidays!

My Favorite Things is having a New Release Cocktail Party on Wednesday, October 1 from 9-11 p.m. Eastern time. This month there are SIX new sets being released, plus a new storage system for your MFT stamps that you are gonna love!Head over to the MFT forum on to find out all the details and to find out how YOU can be the next MFT Guest Designer. We hope to see you there on Wednesday night.

I have an MFTeaser for you today. This card uses one of the SIX new sets being released on Wednesday! :) Aren't these little owls the cutest? To make the card I used the NEW CHILLIN' paper pack from MFT. It is available now on the site. There are two different paper packs and 5 spools of ribbon available. I like that the line uses non-traditional colors. I love the lime green, light purple and blues. Ya know... "chillin' colors". LOL

The owl image was colored with Copic markers. I went over several areas with my Shimmerz angel wings paint. I have NO clue what that stuff is... but it is COOL! :) I added a Heidi Swapp ghost shape star (of course I did! lol). Ooooooo remember how I said I needed more? Well... Miss MFT Kim came to the rescue and sent me some. Isn't that SWEET? Thank you, Kim! You have fulfilled my Heidi Swapp Ghost Shape withdrawl! YAY! Back to the card... I stitched on some of the Chillin' paper to make it look like stitched ribbon and then assembled the card.

Stamps: NEW MFT Christmas Owls

Paper: Chillin' pack from MFT, black, PTI white

Accessories: silver brads, Janome sewing machine, Copic markers, Shimmerz angel wings, dimensional boosters, Heidi Swapp ghost shape star

Blog Candy

This blog candy comes to you in the form of a MFTreat! Do YOU want the chance to win? I KNEW you would say yes! :) Read on...

Here is a word from the sponsor (Kim, THE MFT Lady!):

Many months ago, Cindy Haffner emailed me asking if we could carry some kind of hard plastic case to house our MFT stamps. I thought that sounded like a clever idea, and went to work finding a company to manufacture them, IN FULL COLOR! I mean really, your MFT stamps are stylish, and deserve a home as fashionable as they are, right? So no plain Jane case for us! These will go on sale Wed night during the release, and we are incredibly excited about sharing them with all of you! I will post next week with my labeling suggestions, and exactly how much you fit into one of these babies, but for now, let’s just play!

OK, I am back now! This MFTreat (aka blog candy) is a SWEET one! Here is what you will get:

  • A NEW full color MFT storage box (holds at LEAST 2 stamp sets)

  • 2 stamp sets from the retiring list of Kim's choice (click HERE to read about the retiring sets)

That is a retail value of OVER $30! All you need to do to enter to win, is leave a comment on this post telling me what special MFT product will be released on Wednesday along with six AWESOME stamp sets! (Psst, there is a big picture of it at the beginning of this post *wink*) If you're feeling REALLY chatty, you can tell me what you love about MFT. :)

I will be drawing a number on Wednesday (October 1st) evening during the monthly RELEASE PARTY from 7-9 PM mountain! You can join the release party in the MFT forum on SCS HERE. You don't need to be present to win. I will be posting the winner on my blog as well! Your MFTreat will be shipped directly from My Favorite Things to YOU! :)

Good luck, everyone and happy commenting! :)

Bold Tangerine

MFT is saying farewell to several retiring sets. These sets are on limited edition status and once they sell out, they will be gone forever! The retiring sets will be discounted until they are sold out. The retiring sets are (you can click on each one to be directed to the set):

Quantities are limited, so grab them while you can. You can buy the retiring sets HERE.

For this card I used one of the sets on the retiring list: Build a Bouquet. I used the three bold circles as a back drop for the three bold floral images. Then, I stamped the pot under each flower. I added paper piercing around each circle. Then, I added a jumbo brad (WeRMK) to the center of each flower. I was matting the panel against black and wanted a lighter color behind the brads to peel through, so using a STICKY DOT I adhered three kraft circles behind the brads. This allowed me to pour some dazzling glitter IN the hole of the brad so there would be glitz hiding in there. Initially I pierced a line from the flower to the pot, but then I decided to add some black floss between to create a stem. I added a sentiment on kraft to pull all the colors together. The tangerine ribbon was adhered to the card behind the front panel. I pierced the card base. The final touch was ticket cornering the white panel and adding a brad to each corner.

Stamps: Build a Bouquet, SU sentiment

Ink: Tangerine, Stazon Black

Paper: PTI kraft, white, SU basic black

Accessories: WeRMK jumbo brads, pewter brads, paper piercer, lg oval punch SU, ticket corner punch SU, Dazzling Diamonds glitter SU, red line dimensional boosters, Tangerine ribbon SU, black floss, sticky dots, circle plastic canvas (as piercing template)

Scarecrow Ensemble

Hello ladies! I am teaching a class today at the fabulous Stamp & Scrap Trap in El Paso and these are the projects we are doing!

As I sat down to plan the class, I knew that I wanted to use my stamp set from My Favorite Things: "We're Not Scared". I have a big file that I place printed ideas and inspiration in and I decided to drag it out. In my file I found it... the perfect thing for my scarecrow... the PLEATED POCKET PATTERN! Julie Ebersole posted the concept exactly 2 years and 6 days ago. It must have caught my eye because I printed it out way back then and it was JUST what I needed for the stamp set! I instantly had a vision of a field with different things tucked in the pockets. Thanks, Julie for the inspiration! :)

After I finished the card I decided it needed a treat holder to go with it, so I grabbed my french fry box Sizzix XL die and cut one out with Kraft card stock. I wanted to carry on with the field theme so I cut the front of the box with my Cutterbees. I WAS going to stop at the ribbon, sentiment and scarecrow... but then I decided I needed to "scene it" too so I started sticking things to the front and back and I think it flows nicely with the card. :) When I showed my daughter Madeline she squealed, so I guess that is a good sign. LOL

I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend! My blog should be hoppin' this week with MFTeasers and more, so check back often. :)

Wildflower Calendar

It's time for me to share my 5th and final (for today anyway) project using A Muse's NEW calendar downloads. This time, I used the A2 calendar. This is my favorite project of the 5 I have shown you all today. I am a sucker for Penny Black flowers and imagine my surprise when I realized I had at LEAST 12 different brush stroke flowers I could use to complete a flowery calendar! *Eye roll on my excessive flower stamp collection*, but YAY that I was able to make this using all different flowers. LOL

The A Muse calendars come with colored month names, but I knew I wanted to use the Ambrosia paper from Basic Grey and it wouldn't be matchy matchy if I had colored names, so I had a light bulb moment and went and printed out the A2 calendar in BLACK AND WHITE! By doing this, you can use ANY color combination you want! YAY for versatility! I used my SU markers to color directly on the rubber of the flower stamps. Then, I misted with water and stamped one flower per calendar page. I stayed within the colors of the Ambrosia paper pack which was pumpkin, grey, red and I just had to use green for the stems... they are flowers... forgive me! LOL I decided that the pages needed to be reinforced, so I added a 3/4 inch piece of matching patterned paper to the top edge of the calendar pages where I would be punching with my Bind It All. I overlapped a few of my stamped images when doing this. Next time, I will adhere the paper first, then stamp. :) I used my SU scalloped edge punch to scallop the bottom edge of each calendar page. NOTE: when using the scalloped border punch, CENTER the piece of card stock you are wanting scalloped and then move left and right. This will ensure that the scallops end up even on the ends. You wouldn't want half a scallop on one side and a full one on the other would you? That just looks WEIRD! LMBO! I matted each page of the calendar to card stock and then punched the holes in the top with my Bind It All! Man, I have used that a lot this past week or so! :) It's a good thing I have a life supply of coils huh? LMAO! I adhered patterned paper to the front and back covers. I added a sweet sentiment to the cover. I think it is fitting for the calendar since it refers to beauty and joy of each new day! :) Awwwww! *warm fuzzies* I finished off the front cover with some ribbon and Doodlebug rub on stitches (unfortunately my Janome won't stitch through mat board! LMBO!). The focal piece was embellished with real stitching, silver brads, a SU flower brad and a Heidi Swapp ghost shape.

Stamps: a dozen Penny Black flowers, Penny Black sentiment

Ink: Memento Black, pumpkin, ruby red, going grey, celery, artichoke

Paper: Basic Grey Ambrosia, black, red riding hood, PTI white

Accessories: Bind It All and coil, Janome sewing machine, silver brads, SU flower brad, Heidi Swapp clear ghost shape flower, SU ribbon, Doodlebug rub on stitches, dimensional boosters, water misting bottle, scalloped edge punch SU, mat board, Xyron, Basic Grey filing kit

I am wondering if I am going to be able to give this away. LOL It took me quite a while to make it and I SO love flowers. :)

I hope you have enjoyed my projects today and I hope you have taken the time to go make a small donation for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Have a wonderful day!

Signed,

Totally exhausted after writing SEVEN blog posts tonight! LOL

Clearly Unforgettable!

Here is another project I created with the new A Muse calendar download! This time, I used the A2 perpetual calendar! I told you I was getting lots of use out of these super cool calendars! :)

This project should leave important birthdays, anniversaries and other important dates UNFORGETABLE!

This perpetual calendar is constructed by starting with a clear, soft fold A2 sized clear, card box. You can find them HERE. I assembled the box and then cut off the top SIDE flaps with scissors. Then, I measured the sides of the box and cut patterned paper to fit on the back, bottom and sides of the box. The sides and bottom patterned papers should be facing in AND out since it will be hung and those parts will show. You don't want it to look unfinished do you? LOL The flap was showing on the lower front of the box and it was bugging me, so I decided to add a strip of patterned paper to the outside of the box to conceal it. Since I wanted ALL the dates showing on my perpetual calendar, I then had to cut a "U" shaped piece of card stock to tape in the bottom of the box that would boost the calendar pages up above the line of the patterned paper. I carefully slipped it in there and adhered it with red line adhesive. I left the "lid" of the clear box on and used it to anchor some jumbo brads to so that I could hang my calendar by ribbon. Each calendar page was sponge brayered with grey ink to give it a distressed look. All the patterned paper is distressed and the calendar pages were just too white. I then direct to paper inked the edges with grey dye ink to further distress them. I added a tab to the top of each calendar page. I use the round tab punch, but in some areas, the rounded part of the punch was covering the month, so I decided to cut off each tab where it started to round. It was fairly easy to do. I just held it tightly on my paper trimmer and slid the blade. I only had a few mishaps. LOL I added one "ribbon bundle" when I knotted the ribbon by which the card box will hang. It needed some pizazz. LOL

The trick to using this is: IT NEEDS TO BE HUNG IN AN AREA YOU LOOK AT OFTEN! Then hopefully you will not forget an important date. :) I plan to hang it near the light switch in my stamp room! Simply display the current month and when the next month rolls around, move the page to the back of the stack and show the current month.

Stamps: none

Ink: basic grey, going grey

Paper: Basic Grey Ambrosia, PTI white, red riding hood

Accessories: clear card box, lots of ribbon, round tab punch, cropodile, sponge brayer, red line adhesive, jumbo brads SU

Acrylic Frame Calendar

I told you I have been busy right? LOL Here is yet ANOTHER calendar project! This time, I used the A2 version. I love this version, because there is plenty of white space at the top of the calendar that you can use to stamp in. Once you download your calendar and print it out, you just cut it into fourths and get busy decorating. :)

I have to be honest and confess that I have only made 2 pages of this calendar so far. LMBO! I WILL make the rest, but I wanted to show you my idea nonetheless. :)

This is a cheapo 5 X 7 acrylic frame. I think I bought 1o of these for about $5 several years ago! I am so glad I have a stash of them so I can make some of these as Christmas gifts this year! These would also be a great craft fair item.

You would complete all 12 pages, but only insert one at a time. The others can be kept somewhere else and switched out throughout the year. I will be placing mine on my sofa table and putting the extra pages in the drawer below.

I kept these very simple and used only A Muse stamps. My December page uses an Elzybells girl pulling a sled full of Christmas goodies (distributed by A Muse). :) She is colored with Copic markers. I stitched around the edges of the card stock. Since these pages will be inserted into a flat acrylic frame, you cannot use any thick embellishments. I did use 4 layers of card stock and it fits fine. :) I am SO excited about my January page. I am HOPING you see my vision. Mr. Penguin is dressed in his tux and bow tie (cut out from card stock). He is in New York City watching the big shiny ball drop in Time Square. Well... did you get it? LOL My hubby was iffy on whether or not I executed my idea well enough, so I need some reassurance if you DO get it. LOL Again, simple coloring, a flat sequin as an embellishment and some stitching completed this calendar page. I can't wait to finish the set with more fun papers and images. The great thing about this project is you can customize each page season appropriately and they don't all have to match since they will not be viewed as a set. :)

Stamps: A Muse penguin, skyline, Elzybells sled girl

Paper: Basic Grey, SU black, PTI white

Accessories: Janome sewing machine, Copic markers, Snowman bling (for "ball"), black marker for drawing the line under the buildings

Halloween Countdown Calendar

I made this countdown calendar using my new A Muse calendar download found HERE. Make sure you read my previous post about the A Muse calendars for the opportunity to get WARM AND FUZZY! :)

For this project I used the square format calendar HERE. It is PERFECT for using with your chipboard coasters.

For my countdown calendar, I first used my Xyron machine to adhere paper to both side of 2 chipboard coasters (one for the cover, one for the back cover). Then, I added the title of my calendar countdown book using an A Muse sentiment and SU alphabits. The witch is a punch from Martha Stewart. I only wanted to count down the last THIRTEEN spooky days before Halloween, so I used a 1/4 inch circle punch to punch orange and black dots and used them to cover the days I am not using on my October calendar page. The book can be left opened to this page until the 18th. On the 18th, the page should be flipped and the countdown officially begins. There is one page per day that counts down to Halloween. The next page is the number 13 and on the 30th, the page would say 1... then your little trick or treaters can go to bed knowing that the next day is HALLOWEEN. :)

I think this would be cute to set out on the kitchen counter or entry way. :)

Do you want to recreate this project?

Stamps: A Muse sentiment, SU alphabits, A Muse Boris, Bernice, "this book belongs to", witch feet, witch broom, witch hat, spooky tree, poison bottle, witches brew, pumpkin truck

Ink: Memento Black

Paper: SU Halloween paper, black, pumpkin, PTI white

Accessories: ribbon, Martha Stewart punch, 1/4 inch circle punch, word window punch, curly label punch SU, Copic markers, bat brads MM, paper piercer and mat, CB red tag sale alphabet dies, Xyron, stapler, Chipboard coasters, Basic Grey file kit, Bind It All and coil

My THANK YOU Book!

If you haven't already, please read my previous post about getting WARM AND FUZZY!

When I got my calendar downloads from A Muse, I printed them out all on high quality Papertrey Ink white card stock. I took them to my stamp room and I began thinking of some different ways I could use the calendars. The first idea I came up with was to create a THANK YOU BOOK.

My vision for this project is a heartfelt one. One that will probably earn me some tears on Thanksgiving Day! LOL One of these books will be made for each of my family (hubby, me and 3 kiddos). I used the square format calendar and perpetual calendar for this project. This size works PERFECTLY for chipboard coasters!

The first page of the Thank You Book is a November calendar page. Each family member can use the calendar to cross off each day as they make a daily entry in their book. The next section of the book is the November page from the perpetual calendar. Each day, a simple answer to a question will be answered on the line for that date: What are you thankful for? They will jot down a quick one or two word answer in that slot every day leading up to Thanksgiving answering what they are thankful for. The next section is the thank you section. I inserted 30 blank pages to be used to elaborate on their short answer about what they are thankful for. For example, if I write "my children's smiles" as my short answer, I would then use the black page to explain WHY I am thankful for their sweet little smiles. :) Get it? :) On Thanksgiving, family members can pass them around and read them, read aloud some of their favorite entries, or just keep to reflect upon what was important to them at that time of their lives.

I think it will be an awesome way to celebrate the month of Thanksgiving! :)

Want Some Warm Fuzzies?

You know what I mean right? That warm fuzzy feeling you get when you do something nice for someone else? Something you don't HAVE to do, but do because you want to... and the end result is not only a good deed done, but a special prize for yourself... THAT is what I call WARM FUZZIES!

I was asked by the creative team director of AMuse, Julie Ebersole, to help spread the word about a VERY worthy fundraising event. Once, I got over the shock I sent a reply saying, "I'M IN!" I am all for helping in the small ways I can for charity. We are not a huge income household. I am a stay at home mom and I have three kids... enough said? So when an opportunity arises for me to help... I DO IT!

Last year, Linda Carnell, owner of A Muse Artstamps, designed a calendar to raise funds for Scleroderma Research, an illness her mother suffers from. I did donate to that last year. It was only a couple dollars out of my pocket and I wanted to help! The project was so successful, that she was determined to expand the variety of calendars, and find another great cause to support!

In honor of Victoria Nelson, an avid fan of A Muse, who is undergoing treatment for Hodgkin’s Disease, 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this year’s calendar will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

This year’s Calendar features 16 months and includes Sept 2008 through December 2009. It also includes a perpetual calendar which is great for keeping track of birthdays and anniversaries. The calendar has been designed in a square format as well as an A2 format (1/4 sheet of card stock). (Oooooooo I just saw they added a NEW 4 Bar format and guess who just donated and got the third version of the calendar? Meeeeee!) A girl needs options you know?

There are THREE donation levels per calendar. The minimum donation is $4 per calendar, but, there is also an option to donate $10 or $20 for each version.

We hope people will enjoy stamping these calendars as fun projects and gifts for friends and family, while contributing to a great organization at the same time!

Last year, there was a great response to the calendar and a nice amount was donated to Scleroderma Research, but this year AMuse would like to do MORE! Cancer is a disease that has touched so many of our lives at one time or another. Please take a moment to honor those who have to fight cancer and donate a small amount. $4... or $10... or $20... it's a small amount, but if we stampers band together and donate just a little bit each it will add up to a LOT of help for a worthy cause! If only a portion of you that come to my blog daily were to donate even just $4 and get ONE version of the calendar we would match what was fund raised last year. What an awesome thought that is! SO... do YOU want warm fuzzies?

You can choose between the A2 Calendar OR the Square Calender... OR the 4 Bar Calendar OR you can go BIG and get all of them. Again, for a minimum donation of $4 each, you will be able to get the download for the calendar and donate to a worthy cause. Confession: Last year I donated and didn't even USE the calendar... and I am totally ok with it. :) This year though, I used them and I am in LOVE! I cannot wait to make more projects using the calendars! I know what I am giving for Christmas presents! :)

You can check out more information about this fundraising event over on the A Muse blog HERE.

I have made several projects with the calendars and will be sharing them throughout the day today. :) You'll find FIVE projects posted! I will post one every TWO hours. So check back at 8, 10, 12, 2 and 4. :) That is mountain time. I have been BUSY coming up with lots of different ways to use these fantastic calendars. :) Check back often for ideas to use with your new calendar downloads. :) OK, enough blabbing from me! I saw Flubber for the first time on Lisa Johnson's blog and was intrigued. My kids LOVE to do science experiments, so I knew I would have to try it. After we made our first batches, I started thinking about my AMuse Boris stamp and how cute he would be with some Flubber. I set out looking for a container that I could alter in some way to make some cute Halloween treats for the kids in my girl's classes. I found some cute little jars at Walmart and designed this project around the jars. I have written a photo tutorial for you all showing you how to make it!

These are quick, easy and best of all... LOW COST! You can make 24 of these for under $20!

Let's start with the container that houses the jar of Flubber:
